Sea Shepherd Global is proud to announce a new partnership with the maker of the top-selling natural soap, Dr. Bronner’s. The family-owned Dr. Bronner’s is supplying soap to the Sea Shepherd ships, Bob Barker, Sam Simon and Brigitte Bardot, for the organization’s 2015 Faroe Islands Pilot Whale Defense Campaign, Operation Sleppid Grindini.
Established in 1948, Dr. Bronner’s is a family business committed to honoring the vision of founder Dr. E.H. Bronner by making socially and environmentally responsible products of the highest quality, and by dedicating profits to help make a better world.
CEO of Sea Shepherd Global, Captain Alex Cornelissen, has welcomed the partnership.
“Sea Shepherd is thrilled to team up with Dr Bronner’s. It’s so refreshing these days, in which economic growth and profit seems to rule the world, to work with a company that has a deep understanding of the consequences of our actions on the planet. Dr. Bronner’s not only makes great natural products but also cares about our natural world and all its inhabitants. Dr. Bronner’s is a role model of how corporations should run worldwide,” he said.
For hundreds of years the people of the Danish Faroe Islands have been herding migrating long-finned pilot whales from the sea into shallow water and slaughtering them in a practice called the 'grindadráp' or 'grind'.
Sea Shepherd takes its 2015 Faroe Islands campaign name from the Faroese term, “sleppid grindini.” Literally meaning, “set the whales free,” the term is the traditional order used by the grind foreman to call off a whale hunt.
“Sea Shepherd’s approach to the conservation of the world’s oceans and protection of marine wildlife is essential and unprecedented,” says Michael Bronner, Vice President of Dr. Bronner’s.
“Dr. Bronner’s and Sea Shepherd share a set of ethics and beliefs that ground both of our organizations. I am inspired and humbled by the individuals who make up Sea Shepherd and how each does their part together to confront injustice and make positive change in the world. Although we are not with Sea Shepherd on the boats physically, we are definitely with them in spirit for the Set the Whales Free campaign, and we are happy and honored that our soaps will be there to clean the crew along the way. We look forward to building a partnership with Sea Shepherd into the future.”
