About the Speakers

Jeff Hansen

Jeff Hansen is the Managing Director for Sea Shepherd Australia and a Director for Sea Shepherd Global. Jeff joined Sea Shepherd in 2006 to pursue his passion for marine conservation and protecting the natural world. Serving as a crew-member on two Antarctic whale defence campaigns, Jeff was instrumental in locating the illegal whaling fleet on both occasions.

Since Jeff’s baptism of fire with Sea Shepherd, he has not looked back. Jeff continues to play a pivotal role in driving Sea Shepherd both nationally and globally in tackling the three key threats to our oceans: illegal fishing, plastic pollution and climate change.

Jeff thinks that no matter the opposition, when ordinary people come together, extraordinary things can happen, and if there is one thing worth fighting for on this planet, it's life.

Alistair Allan

Born in Australia, Alistair joined Sea Shepherd when he was 19 in 2010. Starting as a deckhand, then bosun and onto first mate, he became Captain of the Sam Simon in 2018.

In his almost ten years with Sea Shepherd, Alistair has chased down the llegal whaling fleet in Antarctica, shut down pirate driftnet vessels in the middle of the Indian ocean and assisted authorities in West Africa to combat Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated fishing. Alistair joined Sea Shepherd believing that it was one of the only organisations that was truly acting to counter the wanton destruction of the world's oceans and the creatures that inhabit them.

Alistair is proud to be captain of the Sam Simon and to be part of the global movement that Sea Shepherd has become to defend, conserve and protect the world's oceans.
