Sea Shepherd returned to the Great Australia Bight in 2018 when Equinor (formerly Statoil) sought approval to conduct exploratory drilling for oil. This time, cameras were taken below the waves in order to document and showcase the importance of marine park sanctuaries to the local ecosystem.

Following Equinor's bid to drill for oil in the Great Australian Bight, we sent the M/Y Steve Irwin to the Great Australian Bight once again to reveal more secrets from this natural wonderland and gather evidence to show just how critical marine park sanctuaries are to the Bight.

During Operation Jeedara 2018, the M/Y Steve Irwin conducted a critical two-week ecological marine survey off some of the remote offshore island marine park sanctuary zones in the Great Australian Bight.
